HAMILTON
Federalist Paper #22
Regulation of commerce is an obvious power our federal government needs. We can then leverage our power together and use it to gain advantage over other countries. Nobody can argue that as Hamilton said. Getting the states to work together is a problem here and he talks about it a bit. This is one of the reasons the civil war broke out as well. The southern states did not like the tariffs the north was imposing as it hurt them and helped the business of the north. Eventually, with other straws on the camels back, they seceded.
The ability to raise an army is also an argument that cannot be defended against. What purpose would the union serve if not for the safety of its members as one? There is no reason for me to divulge this issue as it has been covered more than a couple times.
"But this kind of logical legerdemain will never counteract the plain
suggestions of justice and common-sense. It may happen that this
majority of States is a small minority of the people of America; and two thirds of the people of America could not long be persuaded,
upon the credit of artificial distinctions and syllogistic subtleties,
to submit their interests to the management and disposal of one third."
This has come as a problem today, though not according to populace. Many in our government act as if they are above the rest of us. The types of arguments they use for pushing their agendas counter common sense on many accounts, but they do not seem fettered by that. If they can push through their agenda, that is enough for them. Very few of the laws are for the people anymore. Our dear stimulus package has billions that are going for ACORN and abortions across the world. That will not sit well with the public. Many billions are not for stimulating the economy, but rather for democrat financial supporters, more or less. That package is losing popularity, but don't think that will stop Reid or Pelosi. They will force that bill down our throats and I look for Obama to sign it. The American people will start to see through this corruptness and it won't be long before they start to act. We won't submit our interests to a corrupt DC. At that point, let the French revolution begin! Start with the leaders and hang them from their ankles! Americans are still a proud people and they will not be pleased when they finally learn the truth.
"But this is not all: what at first sight may seem a remedy, is, in
reality, a poison. To give a minority a negative upon the majority
(which is always the case where more than a majority is requisite to a
decision), is, in its tendency, to subject the sense of the greater
number to that of the lesser."
Where do you see that in our society? Affirmative action ring a bell? All this minority status crap is a poison upon both the majority and the minority. The majority will never have respect for the minority that needs a leg up to accomplish the same tasks. They will always feel as if the minority could not make it without help. Does that sound familiar? Listen to the democrats talk about blacks and how we need to help them. They act as if they are for equality, but if you really listen, the message is that they cannot make it without our help, so we need to help them. Talk about racist. I for one believe that all races can do anything they please. A black man can become a doctor without help, or a lawyer without help, etc etc. When laws are put in place to help a certain minority, it gives one pause when they see a minority in a certain position. A black doctor may not be as skilled as a white because he used the government laws to get him through and into that job, though he might have been smart enough all along, you don't know. If you have a white doctor, you know that he was skilled enough to make it on his own. These laws only hurt the minority. They should go through all the same training and obstacles anyone else does. I never hear Asians complain. That has always irked me. They had it about as bad when they came over from China and built our railroads, yet the average Asian person makes more than the average white person here in America. I don't see them complaining about the number of Asian congressmen. I don't hear them putting down success saying that their friend is just working for the white man. Gosh, I could go on, but you get the point here.
"In such a state of things, this ally of ours would evidently find it much easier, by his bribes and intrigues"
A reason why foreigners should not be able to fund a candidate for office. *cough* Obama *cough*
"In republics, persons elevated from the mass of the community, by the
suffrages of their fellow-citizens, to stations of great pre-eminence
and power, may find compensations for betraying their trust, which, to
any but minds animated and guided by superior virtue, may appear to
exceed the proportion of interest they have in the common stock, and to
overbalance the obligations of duty."
Umm...point again made.
"Laws are a dead letter without courts to expound and define their true meaning and operation."
So that is the reason for the courts? To define the true meaning of the law? Not to create law? I guess living in the 21st century, I get used to judges ushering decrees which go against the people and implant laws by which a single vote was needed (the judge). California first voted against gay marriage and a judge overruled the will of the people and the minority (read above again if you missed it) was given extra rights. They have now again ruled against gay marriage and lets see of California is asking for beating by trying to legislate from the bench again.
